  1. Day 1Arrival Day: Check in anytime from 14h00 on the day

    Dinner & Wine

  2. Day 2Hike Day 1: Zandvliet Meander (9 or 12km)

After a hearty breakfast, we leave by foot to Arabella Wine Estate, for our first wine tasting of the day. Passing through paddock and stable, you’ll get to see some of the thoroughbred racehorses, after which Arabella has a long-standing affinity.

A further stroll brings you to Zandvliet Estate – the house of Shiraz - where you will be treated to some award winning wines in their beautiful Kalkveld lounge.

From here, we’ll transfer by bus, for a beautiful drive up to Kleinhoekkloof: a family-owned boutique estate, whom also specialise in handmade charcuteries. Enjoy an artisan platter paired with their excellent wines, whilst looking onto mountains and fynbos.

A 3km circular hike into the mountains can be enjoyed, whilst those that don’t feel like more walking, can relax in their beautiful gardens. A final tasting wraps up the day, before heading home by bus.

  3. Day 3Hike Day 2: Goudmyn Loop (14km)

Today’s trail follows the Cogmanskloof river down to its confluence with the Breede River.

Our first stop is the grandiose House of Chardonnay, the tasting room of DeWetshof Estate, and our first whetting of the day.

From here it’s a short stroll to the Van Loveren Family Vineyards. These lush gardens, which have been lovingly curated over generations, create the perfect setting for a tantalising MCC tasting and pairing.

From Van Loveren, the trail ambles through vineyards, crossing the Breede River and along the foothills of the Elandsberg Mountains, offering panoramic views across the Goudmyn area.

Hikers will be collected by the Viljoensdrift river barge, for a well-earned picnic lunch aboard the boat, washed down of course, with a variety of Viljoensdrift wines.

  4. Day 4Hike Day 3: Klaasvoogds Trek (9km)

Today starts with a short bus ride to the Klaasvoogds valley and a walk through the Sheilam Cactus Gardens. Boasting approximately 2000 species of plants, this nursery is recognised as one of the finest collections of cactus specimen plants.

From here we’ll walk through farmlands to a lavender farm, where coffee and cake can be enjoyed whilst learning about the many healing properties of lavender.

After a further 3kms, we get to Kranskop Estate, where a full (bodied) tasting of their award-winning wines is provided; whilst the stunning views across the Klaasvoogds valley entice you to linger longer.

However, you won’t want to miss out on the final stop of the day, where Clive and Briony captivate you by their passion and knowledge for all things olive. Enjoy oil and olive tastings, followed by a most delicious 3 course vegetarian lunch, paired with Excelsior wines.

A short bus ride returns you home to Excelsior Manor for a final night.

  5. Day 5Departure Day: after a leisurely final breakfast

Enjoying an MCC and cupcake pairing at van Loveran Wine Estate

The Cape Dutch Revival Manor, once a de Wets family home, is your base for all nights of the trail. Having been lovingly restored, the Manor offers 9 elegant and comfortable en-suite bedrooms.

The deck swimming pool offers a cool respite from summer days whilst the back porch provides a congenial meeting space for afternoon tea.

Attention to detail and luxury extras like heated towel rails and a bathrobe and slippers, are a standard for all rooms. The rooms have a spectrum of bed configurations and room allocations will be made by the guesthouse based on the group’s mix.

Singles will be allocated smaller rooms, in order to keep the single supplement as low as it is.

  1. Can we schedule our own trail?

Yes, if you are a minimum of 6 persons. However, the trail operater will add other persons to your date up to a maximum of 20 persons. If you wish to keep exclusivity on your trail group, you'll need to book a minimum of 9 rooms. Trails can be scheduled to start on any day working in with other bookings.

  2. Do you cater for vegans?

Yes, we cater to all diets and have delicious dishes lined up for all walkers.

  3. Can I chose NOT to walk?

If the whole group wants to skip the walking between the wine estates (yes, we do get this request) - then a bus can be hired (depending on availability) at around R2500 / per day (to be pre-booked & quoted).

If a person cannot walk a certain section – a drop-off can be arranged at R80/pp to cover the ad-hoc vehicle expense (arranged directly - on request).

  4. Is this trail available all year round?

Mostly. We try NOT to offer it during the hottest months of December - February (unless you are good sized group and can only go over that time), and the trail is closed from the 20 June - end of July. Otherwise it is open for you to enquire.

  5. What if you dont drink wine?

Then I would say there are probably better suited hike options, BUT if the rest of your buds are set on doing this - then don't worry you will be catered for and still have a great experience, we promise.
