DISCLAIMER: Challenge by Choice

Active Escape’s tours and events are designed to provide an experience where participants find a level of challenge that enables them to push personal boundaries. We strongly adhere to the principal of “Challenge by Choice”. While every reasonable care has been taken to ensure tours are run with organisation, safety standards and adequate pre-departure information, individuals may react differently – and perhaps unpredictably – to different situations.
Many of our tour destinations are in remote areas, where events are less predictable than is the case in western countries and first world cities. It is best to understand that the ‘unexpected is the norm’ in these areas and, despite careful planning and organisation, adventure holidays should not be taken for granted like regular holidays.
This unpredictability means that the itineraries we put forward for each of our tours should be seen as statements of intent, rather than as contractual obligations. A variety of factors, including weather, transport difficulties and political instability, may dictate that we change an itinerary. Active Escape’s office, in conjunction with your guide, may need to make changes that are necessary, after consultation with the group. Only rarely will such changes be significant, and we will always do everything within our powers to minimise the effects of the enforced changes. We cannot be held responsible for the results of changes or delays, irrespective of how they are caused.

Travel Insurance
It is a condition of joining any of our holidays / tours that you are adequately insured. You will need to ensure that you are covered for medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out delayed departure and cancellation insurance, as payments made are only refundable, according to our cancellation policy. Please ensure the following: • Your insurance documentation must state that you are the named policyholder. • Cover must be valid for the entire duration of your travels. • You must be covered for Medical Expenses and Medical Emergency Repatriation in the event of illness or injury (including the deterioration of known medical conditions). • Your policy must cover you fully for all activities you’re planning on taking part in on your holiday/tour (such as water-sports or trekking at altitude). • Your insurance documentation must indicate a 24-hour contact telephone number for your Insurance Company in case of an emergency. If you are unable to confirm this information before the start of your tour, you will not be able to continue your trip with us. Please ensure that your insurer is aware of your itinerary and agrees to cover the activities being undertaken. Once you have confirmed your insurance, it is your responsibility to advise us of your policy details (Policy Number & Emergency contact no) by sending an email to tours@active-escapes.co.za
